EHx4 recently attended the 2012 Talent Showcase this past weekend, showcasing the best up and coming South African Talent, with our very own MightyMatt1989 representing on the drums! The performers were challenged to compose, write and arrange original compositions to be performed at the Showcase. Needless to say the songwriting was very impressive!

Overall Ratings:

Jamo251:
Deja Vu/Outro 10
-1 for the MC springing surprise solos on the musos (Jik was like haai!) lol
+2 for matts facial expression during his solo (mos wysing Gabe like )
But has the potential to be big, considering the talent levels. Mos need some lekker connections. Music Connection sponsors? Stuff like that.
Overall: A solid 7

WeldedGrass:
Hehe.. Music: 7. Talent: 8. Band: 7.5 (due to randomness of mc with the solos and some verse slip ups with ivana and some genre that I didn’t smaak). Overall: 7.5.. Like the show. Entertaining. Pretty girls. Nice atmosphere. EHx4 represented well. +5 for matty

MundaneDestroyer:
Talent was better than expected. Some acts were really cool. Show wouldve had a better overall vibe if the MC was more with it. i think people wouldve taken it more seriously as a fund raiser
Yeah. But like Jade who was awesome… And the rapping dudes.People need to recognize that. Plush not so much
Setup and layout was nice. Give the event a 6 because it had more potential to show off some of the serious talent.

Big ups to the Barberis brothers (from Barbieri Sound Reinforcement) for putting on a good showcase, may the following ones be bigger and better!

Here’s a pretty rad infographic about the evolution of the wonder that is Adobe Photoshop, from 1.0 to the latest instance, the mighty CS5!  I’m quite sure many a design nerd will agree that this program changed their life 🙂 The fact that the word ‘photoshop’ has become a verb pretty much speaks for itself…

Thanks to PhotoshopLady for the awesome infographic!

Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, has passed on at the age of 56 after a long and public battle with pancreatic cancer.

Here are some tributes that have been pouring in from around the world.

Larry Page, CEO of Google: “He was a great man with incredible achievements and amazing brilliance. He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it. His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me.”

Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder: “People sometimes have goals in life. Steve Jobs exceeded every goal he set himself.”

Paul Allan, co-founder of Microsoft: “We’ve lost a unique tech pioneer and auteur who knew how to make amazingly great products. Steve fought a long battle against tough odds in a very brave way. He kept doing amazing things in the face of all that adversity. As someone who has had his own medical challenges, I couldn’t help but be encouraged by how he persevered.”

Steve Case, Founder of AOL: “I feel honored to have known Steve Jobs. He was the most innovative entrepreneur of our generation. His legacy will live on for the ages.”

Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder and CEO said on Facebook: “Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.

We at eheheheh are truly saddened at the passing of such a great mind and his legacy will continue through his innovations

Heres a quote from an address Steve gave in 2005:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma -which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Rumours are rife that Facebook is to launch a music service at their F8 Conference on 22 September. The service will allow users to share music with each other in the same way that they can share movies, videos and links. The feature would allow online music services like Spotify and Rdio to post information to Facebook pages, which is reminscent of Apple’s Ping service. It will be similar to the way websites can be ‘liked’ on Facebook and will reportedly work the same way Ping worked in iTunes.

Facebook will be looking to provide music streaming services instead of cloud music services. They may require users to pay a monthly subscription fee to Spotify or Rdio, but users will then be able to stream unlimited amounts of music. This is different from cloud services like Google and Amazon’s services, as well as Apple’s upcoming iCloud because these services allow users to access their private collections remotely.

This is particularly cool for Facebook friends to ‘discover’ music from each other. There are a number of apps available that perform this function which have proved immensely popular in the past. One of the first apps i added to my profile was the iLike app in which one would ‘like’ certain artists and music and it shows one’s musical taste. It’s wierd that its taken Facebook so long to come up with this. This will be built into the Facebook platform, so it will be interesting to see how it will work. A Facebook Music app is bound to be on the cards as well which should be a cool thing (streaming music from your profile :D)

More to follow as developments progress…

Artist Laura Bifano created this series of prints, showing various animals in pixellated, 3D format. Its called ‘Menagerie’

“Menagerie” is a show of 10 polygonal animal paintings that I’ve been working on for the last three months.  It reconciles my fascination with the natural world and computer game aesthetics.
