Class Of 2011: If Social Media Were a High School

“From the jocks to the geeks to the band nerds, even the vast world of social media comes with its own stereotypes and teenage angst. Visit the Flowtown store if you would like to purchase a poster of this graphic.”

Very funny!

These are pretty cool minimal posters for the The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by JamesyDesign. A very cool reminder and summary for these films. And a cool one for the upcoming Jackson film.

Just because I’m amazing!

Well it has arrived, the Top Gear Festival has hit our city and everybody is going a bit crazy over it.

All 3 presenters will be here to showcase what is also the largest festival yet, according to one of the sponsors Highveld stereo 94.7.

“So what to expect in the festival?”  you may ask… well, there is the Kart Racing on the Kyalami Cart Circuit.

The BP stunt school , where stunt drivers will be giving an inside look to how things are done in the festival and otherwise.

A Star Cars, where you get to view your favourite muscle and super cars.

The strip which features Super Car drag racing and James May’s 0-100-00 challenge amongst other things.

The Stunt arena where the Presenters will be doing most of the things they love

For Corporates there are a variety of options including a Charity Event and a tribute to Jody Schekter

These are only a few of the things you can do in this amazing festival taking place at the Kyalami Raceway in Midrand.

Aside from The Stig, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, the list of motoring celebrities is rather awesome. they include but are not limited to David Coulthard, Sabine Shmitz, Jody Schekter, and Sir Stirling Moss who will be very involved in the festivities.

Just Because Im Amazing

Here’s a ski town with a difference. The small ski town of Vercorin, Switzerland, has been given a colourful flair by the art duo Lang Baumann.

Vercorin was hosting a fair in the town and wanted to bring in a design team to create something outrageous. They called on Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann, the creative duo that make up the Lang Baumann to transform their streets. The painted streets were intended to be a powerful juxtaposition against the old world feel of the charming town, and the design team succeeded at that!”

shigeru ban: villa vista
Via designboom

Shigeru Ban is one of my favourite architects. A world renowned mega architect. He’s japanese influence and mastery of minimalism is superb.

He has just completed ‘villa vista’, located in weligama, sri lanka. The home is positioned on a hilltop, on the coast of sri lanka. With a 360• View of ocean, jungle and cliffside.

The horizontal planes with the vertical help frame the building. the lines intersecting verticals and horizontals, frame the sourrounding environment, just like a window or picture frame. The cantilevered planes direct the viewer towards a varied view.

Keeping with the local materials, such as teak, cement boards and coconut leaves, Ban uses these in a permiable way in his walls, slats and shutters. Natural light enters the home through the permeable skin and filters into an intricate pattern, keeping in the culture of the area where the climate is too humid and hot for solid walls.

Keeping with that theme Ban has softened the interior space by openning up the space, excluding the traditions of walls, door etc. By merging the inside and outside, private and public he has created a space where the occupant is placed back in their most natural form. Stairs and footbridges connect the various planes, this unites various programs without obscuring the clean lines of the home.

Sometimes we have to be reminded of how BIG our little blue planet really is.

Check out the stark, beautiful images below of the Hang Son Doong Cave which can be found in Vietnam.

Believed to be the largest cave in the world; it was only discovered last year.
