Apple recently released their solution to syncing issues that most people with more than one Apple device have. It’s called iCloud and the aim is to integrate and sync all aspects of your digital life. Sounds pretty cool in principle and its yet another smart moves by the dudes at Apple.
There are a host of features that iCloud provides, like PhotoStream that syncs the last 1,000 photos taken for 30 days as well as pushing apps bought to any of your other devices (which I think is pretty cool, one does not need to buy the app 5 times). The same would apply to iBooks purchased within the App Store, and all personal data would also be backed up in the ‘cloud’ (a potential security risk, but a good thing to have just in case you lose your iPhone, iTouch AND iPad on the same day :0)
The biggest part of this whole thing would be the music aspect. Recently Amazon and Google have released cloud based music services (only available in the US 😦 ) and it was anticipated that Apple would follow suit. iTunes in the ‘cloud’ enables users to redownload previous iTunes purchases to other iOS devices as well as push new purchases to those devices at no additional cost. Another cool feature is iTunes Match, which for a nominal fee, any non-iTunes music in your personal library can be pushed to your other devices (one does not even need to upload it, if its in the iTunes Store). So in a nutshell, your entire music library can be online for you to download wherever you are. That is the power of iCloud.
What do you think of iCloud? Is it a step into the future or just another flashy Apple gimmick?
tech it or leave it :p
