How is the server issue affecting you?

With the 2nd time BB servers are down in the past two days and tensions are running high. Im positively amazed at how much our lives revolve these devices. From businesses to hardcore (even mild) social lives are all being affected this.

As for RIM themselves, in such a competitive market, being on top of your game is vital, to your company’s growth. The Market share has already dropped in just a day. The fact that a great deal of people can almost immediately get a smartphone, that is not prone to this sort of thing is not helping

Best of Luck to RIM for sorting out this issue,  and swift recovery in the market.

Are you being tormented or enjoying the quiet time provided by the server failure RIM is experiencing? let us know

Personally I do not blame for this issue at all, I find it a lot easier to continue to Bryce Lawrence for any issues experienced anywhere on the Planet right now.

Just because Im amazing.

A pretty cool rotary mechanical smartphone designed by Richard Clarkson. This is not just a cover but an actual phone designed to be ‘Steampunky’. It has two interchangeable brass dials, a true rotary dial and a button dial. All dials are interchangeable, similar to changing lenses on a camera!

Yes, ladies and gentlenerds, there is ANOTHER iPhone coming out. And rumours state that it will be between June and August. Pretty broad if you ask me, but I have a feeling for August 🙂

Apple is obviously being uber-secretive about the release date (Its coming in June/Its not coming in June) mostly to capitalize as much as possible on iPhone 4 sales.

DesignedbyItem's concept for the iPhone5

Possible new features could include USB 3.0 and Intel Thunderbolt support, which might also be on the new iPods. Apple also recently registered a patent for a 3D screen + camera which suggests they may be considering that awesomeness on the latest iPhone. The camera would allow users to render 3D images of pictures that they take! Its not confirmed though, so don’t get too excited.

The buzz on the release date is the main thing for now, but more juicy tech specs should be available really soon 🙂

Tech it or leave it 😛

The world’s first 3d smartphone has been released. It it also the first smartphone to boast dual-core, dual-memory and dual-channel architecture as well as the first 3D platform allowing for viewing and sharing of content courtesy of Youtube 3D. The ‘tri-dual’ configuration, as it is dubbed, enables users to enjoy improved performance and run-time compared to smartphones offering 1GHz dual-core processors. The configuration works in a way that it transfers data simultaneously between the dual-core and dual-memory, meaning that users can browse web pages, multitask between programs, play games at higher frame rates and enjoy movies more smoothly and for longer than ever before. The phone will run on Google’s OS Android Froyo 2.2 and will be upgradeable to Gingerbread 2.3.

The LG has a 5MP dual-lens camera that can capture and record images and videos in 3D! Users can view their 3D content on the 4,3 inch WVGA display without the need for those pesky 3D glasses. The screen allows 2D capability up to 1080p and in 3D up to 720p.

Even the user interface is in 3D! It features 5 3D-dedicated UI’s (that’s User Interfaces for all the non-geeks) as well as an HDMI 1.4 output that connects to 3D TVs and monitors. Another cool feature is that users can easily upload and stream 3D content on Youtube’s dedicated 3D channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/3D).

Tech it or leave it 😛

Intel have named BEP frontman will.i.am Director of Creative Innovation this past week.

Intel describes the position, “As an extension of his insatiable fascination with technology, which plays a significant role in his professional and personal lives, will.i.am will engage in a multi-year, hands-on creative and technology collaboration with Intel Corporation.”

“Nearly everything I do involves processors and computers, and when I see an Intel chip I think of all the creative minds involved that help to amplify my own creativity,” said will.i.am. “Teaming up with the scientists, researchers and computer programmers at Intel to collaborate and co-develop new ways to communicate, create, inform and entertain is going to be amazing.”

Deborah Conrad, Intel vice president and chief marketing officer added, “We’re thrilled to tap into the limitless creativity will.i.am brings to the table. He’s not only a brilliant artist and producer, but also an innovator pushing the bounds of technology professionally and personally. We share a strong interest in innovation around music, art and lifestyle, and are excited to join forces to establish an authentic, emotional connection with consumers,”

Intel says will.i.am is slated to collaborate with Intel on all types of products, ranging from smartphones to tablets and laptops.

Intel is not the first company to appoint a celebrity into a creative role. Most recently, Polaroid appointed Lady Gaga as its creative director, which they it claims means she will lead the team in the right direction creatively.

I dunno about this, does this mean they get a desk and day job? Will they clock in at their respective companies every morning? I don’t think so.

This looks like another case of celebrity endorsement, whether or not will & GaGa will actually have some input in their positions remains to be seen.

Your thoughts? Drop a comment there…

Top 5 Gadgets for 2011

Here they are, ladies and gentlegeeks. In no particular order,

Motorola Xoom

AKA  ‘Android Smart Tablet’.  This should determine how broad the tablet market really is. Includes: Google’s Android Honeycomb OS, Dual Core Processor, Hi-Res (1280×800) display and dual cameras.

Mintpad

A dual screen, dual booting tablet able to run both Android & Windows 7. The two screens can either fold up or fold out making it sort of a cross between a tablet and a laptop. They can also be used in unison or separately.

Sony Headman A 3D visor that allows you to play games without a telebox at all. It has two small displays (one for each eye) plus  built in earphones. A replacement for 3D TV?

Blackberry Playbook

RIM’s foray into the tablet world. They have announced it, they have shown it running Adobe’s Flash and they have revealed 3 different models however, they have yet to give their much anticipated device a concrete release date other than to say it will be out sometime in early 2011. RIM needs to get back into the game in a major way, BlackBerry 6 and the Torch don’t count, and the PlayBook very well could be the device to bring them back to relevance.

Playstation Phone

Sony Ericsson is said to be working on a device, codename Zeus, that will apparently be part PSP and part Android Gingerbread powered smartphone. While the debate wages on as to whether or not the device is too late to market , it’s hard to deny that the device is one of the most anticipated releases of the upcoming year.
