After more than half a million votes were cast, the late Steve Jobs has been deemed the Most Influential Man of 2011 by AskMen readers. The co-founder, chairman and former CEO of Apple Incorporated claimed the number one position ahead of an eclectic group that included everyone from outspoken rapper Kanye West to the members of the US Navy’s SEAL Team Six which stormed Osama bin Laden’s fortified compound in May.

Jobs was just one of a number of leaders in the digital space to make the list, reinforcing just how much influence on the modern man emanates from the tech world. Google CEO Larry Page, Facebook CEO/President Mark Zuckerberg, internet troublemakers Anonymous and the controversial Aussie whistleblower Julian Assange all placed highly in the list, rubbing shoulders with professional athletes and Hollywood A-listers.

STEVE JOBS RESIGNS AS APPLE CEO

Wow what news.. Seems this tech giant didn’t feel he could continue in his current role. Here is the letter of resignation:

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

Well well.. The board have appointed Tim Cook as CEO, as Jobs requested. Cook, now former COO, is no stranger to the role and is the obvious choice, he has been the acting CEO during Jobs’ medical leaves.

Jobs still remains in the company as requested and has been made Chairman.

Big news, this could mean a new direction for Apple. We’ll wait and see.

Why do I love Star Wars so much? Here’s a good reason.

This infograph depicts how impactful this franchise and its makers have been since its conception. Made in 2005, by Wired writer, Michelle Deveraux, its a bit outdated but still the point comes across very well. Read it and see how amazing this franchise is and was and how many of its rivals owe a great thanks to it.

So, the iPad 2 has finally been unveiled. And its thinner, lighter and faster than ever before. 33% thinner and 15% lighter to be exact.

Its 5mm thinner than the iPhone 4 and weighs only 600 grams! Apple beefed up the specs with a 1Ghz Dual-Core Apple A5 processor, which is bound to accommodate multitasking with the ’Pad. Dual cameras are also a new addition (720p HD on the back, VGA on the front), enabling the new FaceTime feature to be utilised. Audio has been improved with two larger stereo speakers as well as HDMI output. Faster graphics and enhanced battery life (10 hours) also allow the user to game to their hearts content. A gyroscope also found in the iPhone 4 will ensure the oohs and aahs will ensue for any first time Apple user. Special magnetic covers have also been developed, ensuring your beautiful iPad doesn’t get ruined. And you can get it in white! If you’re into that kind of thing (hehe).

A lot of people have been downplaying the impact that the iPad 2 will have but with the prices starting at $499 (around R3500), I reckon sales will continue to soar. Shipping and sales commence on March 11.

Tech it or leave it 😛
