atelier shinya miura: izukougen house
Wow!! What a stunner.. This beautiful home built in a forestall resort near the ocean, in Izu peninsula area, Tokyo, Japan, was designed for a couple by Japanese studio atelier shinya miura. Called, ‘izukougen house’. To maximise the connection between the interior and exterior, the house contains a series of voids and openings that connect interior and exterior environments.
“fitting onto a narrow strip of land, the design is carefully structured to maximise both the quality and efficiency of space. three internal courtyards govern the interior volume, and provide a sense of openness. extending through the ceiling, the voids act as light wells that flood the neutral interior spaces with natural light and ventilation. a long window on the east side of the dwelling provides a parallel view of the ocean in the distance, while breaking up the longitudinal form. a collection of variously sized windows dance around the rest of the structure, framing and optimising views of the lush garden and surrounding scenery.”
